These services include, but are not limited to, responding to calls for service, writing reports, conducting preliminary investigations, checking the security of college property, and providing traffic enforcement and crowd control during special events.
The Patrol Division is under the command of Assistant Director Pechone Chambers and consists of:
- two supervisors
- two police officer 2s
- 10 security officers
- one security guard
- nine certified police officers
The Patrol Division also employs part-time officers whose full-time jobs are with other municipal agencies. These part-time officers perform the same duties as Southwest officers. All officers are Peace Officer Standard Training (POST) certified in Tennessee as fully sworn and commissioned. Southwest officers enforce college rules as well as state and local laws. Southwest Police Services/Public Safety work closely with the Memphis Police Department and other local, state, and federal agencies.
