International Student's Checklist

This checklist is used by prospective students who want to attend Southwest and are a citizen of another country. Follow the checklist outlined below to become an INTERNATIONAL SALUQI.

Create Southwest Student Account and Email

  1. Locate and select the My.Southwest College Portal (opens new window) button [located in the top right corner of all pages]
  2. Locate and select "First Time Users"
  3. Follow the instructions on the page and enter information in appropriate boxes
  4. Your username will appear (jsmith) or (jsmith2)
  5. To set up your My.Southwest Student Account, follow the directions and create a password. Keep your password in a secure location.
  6. To access your student account, repeat steps 1 and 2

Setting this account also creates your email (example: jsmith@southwest.tn.edu). For assistance accessing your email account, contact the Help Desk at 901-333-4357 (HELP).

Request Record

Request an "Official" copy of your high school, General Educational Development (GED), or High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) transcript, and all previously attended college transcripts translated into English Language, identifying the equivalency of an American High School or College Degree. Please visit our page that shows approved vendors who can assist with translation services. Please send documents to the college at the same time, once translated.

Testing Requirements

  • Students who do not have placement scores (ACT or SAT within the last five [5] years) or transferrable credit from another institution, will need to schedule the ACT National/Residual or approved testing alternative (TBA at a later date.)
  • Submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if the applicant's native language is not English. A TOEFL score of 500 pencil-based test or 173 computer-based test or an Internet-based score of 61 along with the current paper/pencil and computer-based scores is required. International student applicants must take an English placement examination prior to registration, if there is no supporting academic credit from another USA institution.
